Pacific Fire Exchange: Fostering collaboration among fire science stakeholders to reduce wildfire threat and protect Pacific island communities and resources.

Dr. Jack Cohen, a highly respected expert on wildfire behavior and fire science research, explains how fireproofing your home can help protect it from wildfire. A high-intensity flame from a wildfire is less likely to ignite the home than “firebrands”—the hot embers that are spit from the intense flames and then deposited on flammable materials on or surrounding the home. That’s why it’s recommended you use landscaping as one of the defensive methods against wildfire.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide you with a Firewise 101 Refresher Course; and go over what the program is, how it can benefit your community, and some tips on gaining community support!

We go into the different strategies that have been proven to be effective for fire-wise communities across that country. Sometimes gaining support for fuel mitigation measures, educational efforts, outreach, and engagement events can be difficult. It is our goal that by employing some of these strategies, your community will be able to increase participation in community-wide Firewise activities.

This virtual workshop provides essential strategies for reducing wildfire risks to homes and families, endorsed by national agencies. By following these tips, participants can enhance their readiness for wildfires and better protect their communities.
