About Hawaiʻi Wildfire Management Organization
Founded in 2000, HWMO is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving as the state’s primary hub of wildfire information, resources, programming, and technical assistance. With a vision toward wildfire-ready and wildfire-prepared people and places, we support programs and partnerships that are proactive, collaborative in nature, and based on the best available science. Our current initiatives encompass a wide array of activities, including public education and outreach, landscape-scale risk-reduction collaboratives and projects, community empowerment through our Firewise Communities Program & Network, risk assessment and planning, and policy engagement. We collaborate closely with fire and forestry agencies and community partners to achieve our mission.
Who Should Apply
We are seeking community-minded individuals passionate about protecting Hawaiʻi's people and landscapes from wildfire. Strong candidates will have:
A basic understanding of wildfire behavior and mitigation
Excellent communication and project management skills
A commitment to continuous learning and collaborative teamwork
Position Type
The open position is a full-time, one-year position with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon funding and performance.
Work Environment
Team members work remotely from home with regular opportunities for in-person work sessions and networking. Most team members are also expected to work a portion of their time in the field (in-person events and activities). Some pre-scheduled work events may occur during evenings and weekends; flexibility is required. Frequent inter-island travel; occasional continental U.S. travel.
